Green bean casserole

One of the first times that Jon and I spend the weekend at his mom’s place, his mom made Jon’s all-time favorite dish – green bean casserole.  The man gobbled it up for dinner, we went out, and he pretty much finished the rest of the casserole that evening before bed.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone hoover that much food so quickly.

And here’s the kicker – the recipe is on the back of the French’s Fried Onions.

That’s right – you don’t even have to write this down.  The next time that you’re in the mood for a green bean casserole, just walk down the isle, grab a can of the French Fried Onions, and you’re set to go.

(No, this is not a sponsored post).

I won’t copy the recipe here – but feel free to check it out on their website.

In other news, we’re just a few hours away from the weekend,  Hopefully everyone in our household feels better so we can enjoy it with this little trouble-maker.

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

  1. I am a little ashamed that I threw a hissy fit at Thanksgiving this year because when I was up putting Robby to bed, people ate ALL of the green bean casserole and mashed potatoes. My two favorite parts! I may have cried.

  2. We substitute cream of chicken soup and add sharp cheddar cheese into the casserole. Seriously makes it a million times better.

Hope you’re all on the mend!

  3. OMG I love the canned fried onions. I call them Frunions. I discovered them at Thanksgiving and kinda put them on everything now!

  4. TNT’s mom makes it on the stove rather than in the oven the way I do. I also add extra worshire sauce to it. When I was living on my own I’d add brown hamberger/sausage mixture to it and it would be my whole meal. TNT doesn’t like it like that so I haven’t had it for a long time. hmm I might just have to make it tonight and say deal with it! lol

  5. Like Jon, I love green bean casserole! And I love that recipe – my mom has made it for years, so when I had to contribute towards my husband’s family’s thanksgiving dinner, it was my go to recipe. I’ve been tempted to tweak it some, but it’s such a classic to me.

  6. Hope everyones feeling better soon!! Gemmas been sick with the stomach flu for a week, so I feel ya on the sick baby thing–it’s awful :(
    I love that you’re on a recipe-posting kick!

  7. LOVE green bean casserole :) I make some now actually… ha
