Thursday things and the easiest chicken teriyaki in a slow cooker

Gina and I are currently hopping our way through Sonoma and Napa (well, ok, it’s probably closer to stumbling), enjoying every bite and wine that it has to offer.  I’m jealous of myself.

I definitely overpacked.  I started off by creating the 4 outfits that I want to wear during our trip.  Good start.  Once I packed those, I decided that I also wanted to make sure that I had a couple of more casual alternatives.  And some extra tanks.  And shoes.  A lot of shoes.  And running stuff (in case we’re not hung over in the morning).  And some more tanks.  And some blazers.  And a couple more alternatives.  Gina called it ‘options.’  I don’t care what you call it, that was one large suitcase for a 4 day trip.

Apparently I am really into corals this summer.  They make me happy.

To say that I miss my little Peanut would be a huge understatement.  I wonder what she’s doing right now.

Last week I discovered these amazing jars of premixed Teriyaki and Sweet n Sour sauce (Stop n Shop brand).  We’ve been mixing them into a bunch of recipes, speeding up the process and replacing my ugh-I-never-have-ingredients-I-need with this-will-work.  Last week we made Teriyaki chicken in the slow cooker.  With two ingredients: chicken and Teriyaki and about 2 minutes of my effort (set up slow cooker, dump chicken in, dump sauce on top, add a couple spoonfuls of water).  The result?  Delicious shredded chicken that we had on rice and later, as leftovers, on pizza.

Peanut shoveled it into her mouth so quick, I didn’t even know what to do with myself.  Wait, that’s a lie.  I video taped it.  I had to show Jon that it happened.

Although I do believe he understood when I later saw him shoveling it in the same manner into his own mouth.  I’m going with “success.”

This week we’re trying the same thing with Sweet n Sour sauce.  I’ll let you know how it works out.

  1. I would love to raid your closet! Or have gotten stuffed into your over-sized suitcase. Fun!

  2. OOooohh! Have fun in Napa! We went there for a day on our honeymoon… if you have time, make sure to stop at the Castle winery… it’s one of the last wineries on the road headed North and it’s AMAZING! It’s built like a Tuscan castle… and the wine is DELICIOUS!

  3. Love Napa – so envious of you right now! I’m SO in love with coral this season too. I find myself drawn to it in stores and have to hold back! I always overpack. If there was room in the suitcase then it was just asking you to bring more clothes. Have fun.

  4. I over packed for my trip too. But I’d rather have more then not enough!! I will have to try that recipe! I like easy!

  5. JEALOUS!!! And you are spot on with the coral and colors! Hottest trend of the season! I expect lots of fun (semi-tame) photos of the trip and have a glass of white somthing for me!

  6. Do you just cover the chicken with the sauce or do you need a bit more than that?

    • I just cover the chicken with the sauce and let it sit in the slow cooker on low for 8 hours. Sometimes I add a little water (just a splash) to dilute the sauce.

  7. I love your little girl’s giraffe suit…My daughter’s bday is in 2 weeks and it’ll be animal themed. I picked out a vest and skirt ensemble in zebra print because she wanted to be a zebra…Kids really look cute in animal inspired stuff…Love to raid your closet, LOL! Love the colors!
Sounds like a real treat, this is an amazing chix recipe! =)

  8. I’m so jealous of this trip! It is on my list of places to go for sure! Where did you get those adorable yellow shoes?

  9. Pursuing the ideal path is not covered with rose floewr diameter, is straightforward unimpeded broad road, not be in smooth water sea. This is a road full of hardships and dangers of sand road. We must go step by step, endure the soles of the feet of the pain and other irony, resist the external distractions. Maybe there will be the occasional faint give up study, don’t give up, don’t let your life become comfortable walking, don’t let your life become commonplace, don’t let your life regret.
