A day in the life, April 11 2014

2014-04-12_0026

Today Taylor turns 11 months - the last month before she is officially one.  I took the 11 month pictures.  I even edited a handful.  But I just can't get myself to process the rest.  Time seems to go by faster than I am capable of handling. Instead, I decided to do a Day in the Life.  Peanut, 3 years old and 3 months.  Taylor, a couple of days short of 11 months. It's Thursday, my day home with the girls.  I wake up with Taylor's crying just before 6 am.  Ever since she got really sick she's been waking up earlier than usual.  I pull her into bed with us and we snuggle/sleep until around 6:30am.  Taylor has perfected her little wiggle worm and I end up giving in and feeding her.  Jon is in PA for work and I'm on my own. A little before 7 I hear a knock on Peanut's door. She knocks when she wants to get out but can't get the door open. I set her up on the couch and I pump.  We don't have any plans so I don't bother to hurry.  I change Taylor while I pump. Taylor is left to her own devices while I grab a cup of coffee.  For the record, a cup of coffee that I will rewarm 3 more times before I take my first sip, but it's the effort that counts.     We move to Peanut's room and change out of our pajamas. Peanut was not amused.  And not participating.  Until I pulled the new "gem" trick and up she went.  Potty.  Change.  Teeth.  Face wash. And time for breakfast while mommy packs up for the day.  After a text message with some … [Read more...]

January 9: Day in the Life

a day in the life with 2 kids

It's been a little while since I've done a Day in the Life post so I thought I'd give it a go. Lesson learned: picking up the camera to take photos when you're home alone with 2 kids and a dog is challenging...at the very least.  Add my neverending laundry pile, dirty pottys, and a carpet that has to be vacuumed daily because a certain baby keeps putting dirt in her mouth, and, well, let's just say I did my best. Addison, 2 years 11 months 18 days.  Taylor, 7 months 27 days. Today is a Thursday which means that we're home.   We wake up around 5:30am to the sound of Taylor whining in her crib via the monitor.  We've been trying to move her bedtime a few minutes later in hopes that she would wake up closer to 6:30am and it worked for 3 weeks and then we slipped.  Oh, well.  Here's to trying again this week. Jon grabs the baby, hands her off to me, and climbs back under the covers. It's seconds before he's snoring again and Taylor is happily snuggled up next to me, nursing.  I close my eyes for a little while.  About 20-30 minutes later she's done and falls back asleep.  I slip out, grab my pump stuff and my phone.  Pumping in the dark while everyone around me is sleeping isn't much fun but my two friends are always doing the same (or nursing) and so we chat on Facebook for a while. By 6:45am Jon is up to get in the shower and I hear the toddler stirring, calling "mommy and daddy."  This wakes the baby up and so we all head over to the living room.  The tot settles in on … [Read more...]

A day in the life

2013-09-12-Day in the life-167

Addison, 2 year 7.5 months.  Taylor, just a day shy of 4 months. I haven't done one of these since I was pregnant with Taylor and it's long overdue.  As usual, I will warn you that this is going to be a really really really long post.  With an insane amount of pictures.  Beware. It's Thursday.  Which means that I'm home with the girls since I started working part-time. Last night was a little rough.  The tot has been having some night terrors and just generally waking up at night again.  The baby is hitting the wakeful 4 months and "playing" in the middle of the night.  Needless to say that when I woke up I was tiiiiiirrreeeedddd. This one?  Not so much. I am woken up by the sound of the baby on the monitor.  I gently nudged the hubs in bed, begging for him to get the baby and bring her to me.  He, in his sleepy state, obliged.  I nurse the baby in bed while we listen to Jon's alarm go off.  Twice.  He's finally up and I entertain the baby and pump.  Around 6:30am we're all done and I change the baby and we play for a little while.   She's learning to sit up on her own and can even balance for a few seconds, especially when there is an interesting toy involved. Jon's showered and getting dressed when the tot finally wakes up.  Apparently a sleepless night does encourage a tot to sleep in.  It does not, however, do the same for the baby.  Noted. I grab the semi-grumpy-mostly-sleepy tot from her room and bring her to the living room where … [Read more...]

A day in the life of a 27 month old, pre-sibling

Day in the life of 27 month old

Our days as a family of 3 are numbered and I thought I'd capture a full day in the life of this little 27 month old before she becomes a big sister. The other day I was looking at the last Day in the Life post that I did and it's incredible what a huge different just 4 months can make. Also, you should know, that this is like the longest post ever with about a gagillion pictures. I won't be offended if you just skim it, but then you'll miss out on things like our kid eating leftover crumbs out of her chair cushion after every meal. Good morning, Peanut. You wake up between 7 and 7:15am on weekdays and between 7 and 8am on weekends. It's incredible that you're starting to sleep in on weekends - or at least lay in your bed quietly while we get to sleep in. Most mornings you wake up happy and ready to take on the world. But never ready to get changed - that is your least favorite part of the day. I think if it was up to you then you'd be walking around in a wet, full diaper and pajamas the rest of the day. You love climbing into our bed on weekends and terrorizing daddy and your puppy. Since you've learned to communicate rather effectively, you tell us that you need "8..9..10 toyz and bla-key's" (a lot of toys and blankets) to come with you. We oblige. You also know that your little sister is in mama's belly...you call her "baby Taylah." It's absolutely adorable. One of your favorite things to do in the morning is to sit on our dresser and play with … [Read more...]

A day in the life of a 23-month old

It's 7am. You greet us every single morning with a smile. Our routine begins...Pediasure, snuggling in our bed, Saturday morning cartoons. "Hi, dad.  You up?" It's Saturday and the beginning of our vacation and the holidays. We take it easy, slowly getting ready while you entertain yourself.  Then we all get dressed to head out to Kid City in Middletown, CT. You've gotten really good at entertaining yourself, especially if you're allowed to sit on our bed. You're also incredible at entertaining us. After a 30 minute drive, we arrive at Kid City and off you go. We've been coming to this place since you were about 10 months old and it's so much fun to watch you get more and more out of all the activities. At 11.30 we're all hungry so we head across the street and grab a bite together.  We've been working on you sitting through a full meal both at home and while we're out and it's totally paying off.  You happily entertained yourself and ate your lunch.  After lunch we put you back in your car seat with Nemo on the portable DVD player and headed home for a nap. These days you're sleeping between 1-2 hours and even after you're awake, you usually refuse to get out of your crib.  You love to snuggle up with your blankets and pacifiers and watch us walk by your room, occasionally coming in to check on you and see if you're ready to get up.  When you're finally ready, we settle back on our bed for your favorite … [Read more...]
